Death by Committee: The Annual Joke Played on New York's Veterans

New York's veterans are again poised to receive equity and honor.
Call or email your senators and representatives to move S04714 and A06974
out of committee to a full vote. No more fakeouts. No more false promises.
A veteran is not Charlie Brown.
Beginning immediately after the passage of bills establishing the unfortunate Chapter 548 of the Laws of 2000, over 100 bills to amend  its glaring inequities were written only to die in committee. This 14-year trend -- annual death by committee for  New York's veterans -- must be stopped now!

A sad trip thru the graveyard of real military service credit:

This trend continues to the present day. Call your senator and assembly person....tell him/her to help move S04714 and A06974 out of committee to a full Senate and Assembly vote.

It has passed both the Assembly and the Senate...why has it not already been sent over to King Andy?

  2. What you have listed is not correct. If the governor gets the bill when the legislature is out of session, he has 30 days to sign it or veto it, but if he doesn’t do either, it's like he vetoed the bill (this is what's known as a "pocket veto.")

    1. No. The governor has 10 days. If he neither vetoes nor signs the bill within those 10 days then the bill becomes law. This is explained on the AFL-CIO website dedicated to our bill (Link is on the most recent blog post and in the comments on that post). See http://nysaflcio.org/veteransbuyback or click here.
For the purpose of the governor and bills we are 'in session' and those rules apply.

    1. The governor vetoed the bill on NOV 6, 2014. Lets pray that the Assembly and the Senate override the Governor's veto!

  4. Maybe its time young people from New York to stop enlisting all together in any Armed Service. Gov Cuomo has certainly shown not all will be appreciated.
